Trump has announced a major shift in media reporting on his actions. He’s ordered the removal of major news organizations from the Pentagon, including The New York Times, NPR, NBC News, and Politico. In their place, he’s granting dedicated office space to the New York Post, One America News Network (OANN), Breitbart News, and HuffPost—most of whom are known for spreading conspiracy theories, pushing pro-Trump propaganda, and undermining democratic institutions. One of the defining characteristics of autocratic regimes is that they control the flow of information, ensuring that media outlets report favorably on the ruling party while silencing dissenting voices. This move isn’t just concerning—it’s a flashing red siren. The state-run media playbook is clear: flood the public with friendly coverage, discredit legitimate journalism, and make it harder for people to differentiate between truth and propaganda.

And now, it's happening right in front of us. Let’s break down what this shift means:

• Breitbart, OANN, and the New York Post actively promoted Trump’s “Big Lie” about the 2020 election being stolen, despite all credible evidence proving otherwise. Now, Trump is rewarding these outlets with privileged access to the Pentagon—the world’s most powerful (and unaccountable) war department.
• NBC, NPR, The New York Times, and Politico—organizations that correctly reported that the 2020 election was legitimate—are being pushed out, further cementing Trump’s anti-press, anti-accountability agenda. And while I’ll be the first to admit I’ve been critical of how many of these corporate outlets must do better, I absolutely distinguish them from right wing propaganda outlets that sold Americans the Big Lie about the 2020 election.
• And how would the average person know about the billionaires who fund these outlets and biases they present? How do we ensure we’re getting accurate information in a landscape increasingly dominated by propaganda?

The answer is we can’t trust legacy media alone anymore. We need independent tools that expose bias and ensure we are consuming fact-based journalism.
